Direct Sales Fundraiser

Your Sorority orders an inventory of fundraising products to be sold by your volunteers. The product is provided to your volunteers who sell the product, deliver it, and collect payment, usually in one trip. Some fund raising companies allow time for you to sell the products before requiring payment while others, especially those providing custom products, will require payment in advance of your fund raiser.

Order Taker Fundraiser

Also called pre-sales, brochure sales or catalog sales. Your Sorority volunteers are each provided a fundraising brochure to show potential supporters and an order form. If your group is selling a single item, volunteers may also have a sample to show. Supporters select products from the brochure and records the order on the order form. Once your members are done, all order forms are tallied and sent to the fund raising company which ships the products to the contact person for your group fund raiser. Your members and volunteers then deliver the products to your supporters.  Depending on your choice, your group can collect funds from their supporters when the order is collected or upon product delivery.

On-line Fundraiser

On-line fundraising is generally handled in one of two ways. In the first, the fund raising company your Sorority is working with will create a personalized website for your group. You encourage supporters to purchase products or services from that site and you receive a percentage of sales. The second way is to have a coded link on your organizations website that will take the visitor to a personalized page on the company’s site. Again, you encourage supporters to make purchases through the coded link and your group receives a percentage of the sales. Your fund raiser could be for a specific time frame or, depending on the program, may be an ongoing throughout the year.

Special Event Fundraiser

Special event fundraising varies significantly. Your Sorority may work with a fund raising that conducts the entire event or they may sell the material, supplies and/or script for your group to produce the event yourselves. Regardless, your group will most likely at a minimum be responsible for securing the facilities, advertising, and selling tickets for the fund raiser.  Another alternative is a complete do-it-yourself fundraiser that your group comprises from scratch. You normally think of dinners, plays, car washes, raffles, and auctions in this category but there are lots more to consider.

Fun Sorority Fundraisers

For fraternities and sororities on a college campus, money is always an issue. In most organizations, there is a membership due fee which is usually a few hundred dollars. There are so many things that need to get paid for like fraternity lettered sweatshirts, paddles, group photographs, parties, events and the financial cost of the pledging process which can be expensive. Here are some of the best fraternity and sorority fund raising events put on at college campuses across the country:

1. Jello Wrestling: I have personally seen this event live on my own college campus so I can tell you how much fun and how profitable this is. You need a few fraternity guys and a few sorority girls to make this event happen. You also need a mat which you will pour more than 100 containers of jello or pudding into. Jello or pudding is very cheap and altogether the cost won’t be more than $100. This event simply involves guys and girls wrestling each other in a tub of pudding or Jell-O. It makes for great entertainment. Charge admission at the door in order to see people wrestle. If anyone in the audience wants to wrestle a guy or girl, charge them a certain price to wrestle as well. This event could easily raise more than $500 and the crown turnout should be huge if the event is promoted throughout the student body and Greek Life on your campus.

2. Fraternity Paddle supplies: This is another classic event that I have seen and read about more than a dozen times. In every fraternity and sorority, there are big brothers and big sisters and the little brother or little sister needs to make their mentor a paddle. The fraternity paddle also needs to have Greek letters on it and decorations. Fraternity paddles usually will cost people upwards of $50 and sometimes it can be difficult finding a store that sells Greek fraternity and sorority paddle supplies. In this fund raising event, have your fraternity or sorority buy fraternity paddles and paddle decorations early on the year when the supplies is on sale at any hardware or wood store. Then at the end of the semester when it comes time for people in other fraternities and sororities to buy their paddles and supplies, you can sell them the paddles you bought weeks ago for almost double the cost. It’s really using the simple principle of supply in demand. There is usually a short supply of fraternity paddles and decorations and therefore if you have extra, it will be in high demand and you can charge more for it than a normal store.

3. House party: this is the most common idea and never seems to get old. House parties require very little cost, especially if it a well known fraternity or sorority. Buy a few beer kegs and then charge admission at the door of about $5. You should easily cover the cost of buying the beer kegs and for most parties you usually make several hundred dollars.

4. Dating auction: This idea involves cooperation between a fraternity and a sorority. Advertise on campus for a date auction. During a date auction, people put in bids to get a date with a guy or girl who is up for sale. It can be as simple as dinner and a movie. Whoever in the audience puts up the highest bid gets to take that guy or girl out for dinner or on a date. College students really get into the event and it raises a lot of money. 5. Bake sales or car washes are always popular but truthfully, they don’t make much money. In fact, they usually lose money in the end because people don’t get enough money to cover their costs.

Fun Sorority Fundraising Ideas

There just seems to be a shortage on funding in all schools these days. Even our college campuses don’t have the money they need for necessary teaching tools or repairs so it has become necessary to come up with creative ways of raising money. Sorority fund raising can be a blast and a way of providing necessary funds for needed repairs or updates to furnishings and or supplies. With the energy and excitement a sorority brings, you can come up with many great ideas for raising money and it shouldn’t be too hard to initiate the help needed to make it all happen. This article will give some simple and fun ideas for sorority fund raising.

Sorority fund raising is a great way to bring a group of young people together with one purpose in mind. It can be a lot of fun incorporating their youthfulness and excitement into raising money for a project of some sort that they will all benefit from. One type of sorority fund raising can be to hold a community type event like a carnival with booths, face painting and clowns, a dunking booth in which you can persuade town officials or people of importance to be the ones that would be dunked and then you would also sell concessions. With the proper approach, you can get many if not all of the items donated that you will need for your sorority fund raising day.

There are other sorority fund raising ideas that can be a big hit. You can go to local businesses and promote a modeling event in which your sorority will do the modeling of their products and you would get the funds received from the event. You could hold a dinner in which you the sorority prepares or caters and there would be a charge for the entire evening of modeling and fun. You could have little fun skits in between the modeling or provide some local talent as extra entertainment for the evening. Many of the local television and radio stations will offer free publicity to a worthy sorority fund raising event.

Other sorority fund raising ideas can be of course the normal car wash or bake sale but you might want to hire yourselves out to a local business that has some type of event coming up. They would pay your sorority to do the set up, clean up and serving of the event. There are so many more fun and creative ways of raising money, and many of the local businesses will sponsor or donate to a worthy sorority fund raising cause.
