Throwing Parties as Fundraisers

For organizations such as a sorority, fundraising should be an easy task, with members already having a common bond or interest to begin with. Circles within sororities usually have common interests and/or hobbies, which can help in deciding the theme of a fundraising activity.

A party fundraiser is a common activity that sororities can easily undertake given the warm camaraderie and automatic cooperation between participants. Sororities can hold parties to raise funds and have fun at the same time. In fact, it is a great plan that kills two birds with one stone—improving the relationships of the members of the sorority and raising funds for a cause that means a lot to the organization. The following are some great tips for a successful and meaningful fundraising party for sororities.

Boost the team spirit. A sorority fundraising party is a fun way to get together and build lasting relationships. As team effort is required for a meaningful fundraiser to take place, cooperation from each member is a must. Working together for the fundraising party will give everyone a chance to help out and selflessly give their time and efforts for a great cause.

Define objectives. Set clear objectives as to where the proceeds will go and what charitable or medical research institution will benefit from the fundraiser. By setting clear objectives (monetary or otherwise), sorority members will be more aware and can also spread the word to peers, thus pulling in more people to participate in the fundraiser.

Organize a planning committee. Larger sororities should take time to come up with an organizing committee that will be in charge of planning the party details. Have one committee to handle food, another to handle the venue and decorations and another for logistics. While these committees will rely heavily on volunteers, planning activities can be carried out efficiently when there is a leader who will monitor the group.

Set a theme. Depending on the occasion (the party may take place near holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas) and the cause itself, the fundraising party should have a uniting theme to give it an identifying factor. If the fundraising party is for an animal rights cause, organizers may opt to serve cat and dog themed cookies and pastries.

Make it interesting. What’s a party without great music? Organizers may opt to invite local musical artists to perform for free (it is a fundraising party, after all!). Take note of local, independent artists who would welcome free publicity and a large audience.

Get participants involved. Piquing the interest of the fundraiser’s participants factors into the success of any fundraiser. The more they are interested or passionate they are about the cause, the more they are willing to give their time, efforts and money. Never ask for their money once they step into the party. Acquaint them with the cause and raise their awareness—this will lead to a more informed decision of charitable giving.

Jello Wrestling Fundraiser

Jell-O wrestling is one of the more common fundraising activities but for sororities, it is a fun activity that can done during college fairs or fundraising parties. Sororities can get their best looking members to dress in bikinis and take on the challenge of Jell-O wrestling. This will most likely attract more students to come to the fundraising event and possibly participate for a reasonable price. Raising money through jell-o wrestling will be fun and entertaining with these tips and tricks.

Strategize and organize. Define the monetary goals and how it should be achieved. Organizers can hold small bets on who will win each round of jell-o wrestling and a portion of those bets will serve as proceeds for the fundraiser. Organizers can also give out tickets to those who want to attend the jell-o wrestling event. More interestingly, they can sell participatory tickets for those who want to battle it out on the jell-o pool. If the visitor wins the fight, he can opt to donate a small amount of money to the cause.

Crank up the sounds. A fundraising event as fun as a jell-o wrestling activity should have great music to go with it. It will not only attract more passers-by but also get people hyped up for the match. Make sure that the jell-o wrestling activity is held at a safe and appropriate place in which no one will complain about the noise.

Use the right jell-o. Regular gelatin can stain clothes and other materials. Make sure to use non-toxic and biodegradable jell-o designed for jell-o wrestling. This way, the jell-o will be easily discarded without harming the environment, Choose gelatin that is easy to set up and discard, but will also last throughout the fundraising event. Some manufacturers already provide jell-o that is specifically designed for such activities.

Have a blast. Jell-o wrestling can also take place in a fundraising party as an added activity. An inflatable pool can easily be set up at the backyard of the sorority house, where guests can also participate for a small amount. Organizers can also set up teams within the sorority to battle it out in the jell-o pool. Observers can pay to watch and even place their bets on which team will win. A little competition will definitely go a long way in jell-o wrestling fundraisers.

Jail and Bail Fundraiser

Jail and bail puts the fun back in fundraising. It’s an innovative way to raise funds, simply by “incarcerating” people who are willing to be put in a make-believe jail and allowing them to bail out by giving a small amount of donation money. This type of sorority fundraising is great for college events like fairs and festivities. The organizing sorority can set up a make-believe jail booth and have acting “police women” (preferably dressed in nice cop uniforms!) to “catch” passersby who are willing to get cuffed and jailed for a small period of time. To add some spunk, fundraising organizers may opt to have their acting “police women” wear fun and sexy police uniforms and use fuzzy handcuffs. Make sure, however, that the costumes are in line with the fundraiser’s theme. For a meaningful fundraiser that is sure to gather money for a great cause, take into consideration the following.

Make it fun. Never arrest people who don’t want to be arrested. Organizers do not want to receive a bunch of complaints from people who do not want to participate or donate money to the fundraising body. Select people who are willing to give and participate in the fundraising activity. Opt to give out small knick knacks or giveaways to those who enthusiastically participate in the jail and bail. The lady police can also give them a nice kiss on the cheek (with bright red lipstick that sticks—for full effect!) after they bail out.

Be creative. Use fancy costumes to add some spunk to the fundraiser. Those who will go about hunting for captives can dress like police officers or pirates. Play some music to attract attention and get the energy going. Make sure however, that the fundraising event is held in an appropriate place where no one will complain about the noise.

Have a relevant theme. Make sure that the fundraising activity has a unifying theme that reflects the cause of the fundraiser. The more informed people are, the more they will want to participate in the fundraiser. Point out the importance of the cause and how the proceeds will help the benefitting organization or individuals.

Sorority Fund-raising Ideas

As you’ve probably been told several times by your advisers, alumnae or big sisters, there is a whole lot more to being in a sorority than partying and wearing your paraphernalia on campus. You have a responsibility to your sorority and your community as a whole to raise funds to help people in need, pay for sorority trip, and build up your chapter’s bank account. Don’t wait to be asked—be proactive about brainstorming innovative fund-raising ideas.

Back to School Supplies

If you sell what they need, they will come. At the beginning of the college year, students (especially freshmen) might be scrambling to gather back-to-school supplies, including notebooks, pens, highlighters, binders, portfolios, folders, paper clips and calculators. Save them the trip to the school bookstore or pharmacy by setting up a table at your student union to sell back-to-school packages that include all of these items. Charge a modest markup of about 10 percent to 25 percent to make a profit; there is a good chance that the convenience of having everything in one place will persuade the students to buy the supply package from you rather than running around to various locations. Organize a price list so that you can offer a la carte choices. Find everything you need at dollar stores, office supply stores, online, and look for bulk discounts at wholesale clubs such as Sams Club, Costco or BJs. Make sure you set up your selling table neatly and professionally with banners and paraphernalia related to your sorority.

Tutoring Session

If a good portion of your sisters are top-rate students, hold a group tutoring session once or twice a month. Each sister will offer tutoring on all subjects that she is familiar with for $10 to $15 per hour. Students can bring a homework assignment from the class or a specific question. All of the proceeds will go to the chapter or a community service objective.

Dorm Room Design

Keeping with the theme of giving students what they need, you can offer dorm room interior design services to incoming students. If one of your sisters has a special knack for home decorating, make her the project lead. Charge a flat rate, no more than about $100 to $200 to decorate the student’s room on a budget with specially chosen rugs, curtains, and small, inexpensive pieces of dorm furniture. Find a discount store where you can buy items for a good deal or shop online. Prepare a small catalog for each student to choose what he likes or you can just ask about the student’s general style (such as favorite colors) and ask him to trust your judgment.

Creative Sorority Fundraising

For schools and college campuses, fund raising is one of the essential ways for raising money. Since due to the shortage of funding there are many programs, which are omitted from the events list. Therefore, nowadays creative ideas are used to raise money in order to operate such programs. Sorority fundraising is one of the best ways to extract money with additional finances essential to organize these programs. Enlist the people who have a capacity to extract more funds. There are many talented members in a sorority fundraising group.

There are many brilliant and talented minds, which can be embodied in a sorority fundraising group. These sorority fundraising groups can work mutually to achieve their common goal and cause.  In order to have a successful sorority fundraising, you have to get people excited and motivated to sell and raise money.

You can use many ideas to collect sorority funds. However, creative ones have a greater response, as creativity counts. Car wash and selling flowers is one of the common ideas that are used for sorority fundraising. There are many ideas which you can use for raising funds and any season is a great season to make this start. Some ideas are like you can keep a prom for adults where you will get a great response because everyone is a party freak.

You can take help of college alumni or any town official if you are raising funds for school carnival, as they slot in different stall and entertainment. Sorority fundraising is a grand way to bring a cluster of young people together in order to serve a common purpose. You can fit in male and female in the sorority fundraising as modeling event and even toss in a slight laughter during the show.

You can be creative with your money making, as sorority fundraising sometime involves modest determination and point of view. You can do sorority fundraising by promoting the big sales of car dealers. You can help in various events like a dinner party or some special event by doing all the management work. So if there is any idea, which is benefiting you as a sorority, then that plan requires your approach to be implemented. You will have lots of fun and will earn good money by doing sorority fundraising.

As a sorority fundraiser you have to be creative. In today’s world, it is not easy to raise funds. You have to think like a donor as they part with their money only for a cause because this gives them a feeling of satisfaction. So plan in such a way that, when you implement your sorority fundraising plan it works as a benefit factor for both of you.

PRINCIPLES AND IDEAS FOR FUNDRAISING

Competent time management and innovativeness helps in raising good funds for any fundraising programs. If you are raising funds for purpose like charitable contributions or for community source of help then a bit of teamwork and forethought can help in raising a large amount of money. If you want to get more out of fund raising experience, then it is better to make use of some common principles in order to gain a positive result.

Make a decision on what you need. You will be able to plan basic ideas for fund raising by first deciding on fundraising goals. Secondly, remember that fund raising program is critical, so it is better to take time to prepare the program. Given that, quality is better than quantity.  The next thing is communication and motivation. Keep a proper track of all events and communicate clearly. Since, the people will not like to give out generous donation until they don’t have a clear idea, as to where their money or donation is going.

It is important to keep your team motivated and excited as the fundraising event is going on. It is better to have wide variety of products, when you sell or auction products, as some products may not be beneficial for other fundraisers like sports fundraisers, sorority fundraises and fraternity fundraisers.

Here are some quick sorority fundraising ideas:

Raise funds by selling out bracelets made of silicon or other material. You can decorate these bracelets by imprinting messages at affordable price. You can sell it for $1 or say $2 and can make more profit.

Organize a powder puff tournament as many of the sorority fund raisers and sports fund raisers do. In this powder puff tournament, you can keep trophy for the winning team. These tournaments help in raising funds by selling out tickets and there are many eating stalls kept by the sorority fundraiser and sports fundraiser to earn more profit.

Sell out toilet napkins as you can get more money from it. You can buy these toilet napkins at a wholesale price and sell the same to others at more cost. You can even put up sandwich or hamburgers stalls, as it is liked by many of people. You can sell discount cards for $8 or $10 and make a big profit. Discount cards are available for various eating joints and other shops.

Another idea to raise funds is through dance epic, clash of bands and even through bingo fundraising. Today everyone wants to party hard and chat fast so, this idea fits perfectly for all the fund raisers.

CREATIVE IDEAS FOR SORORITY FUNDRAISING

Creativity is what makes all plans successful. So if you are planning to raise money for an upcoming event in your college or school, then you can raise huge amount or say big dollars by putting little creativity in your plan for sorority fundraising. You can plan some great fundraising events only when you have the support of several sorority associates.

Think of a particular theme in order to implement a successful sorority fundraising idea. You can think of many sorority fundraising ideas once the theme is created. You can raise more money and give out a better message by opting for a theme. Since, raising a fund means bringing about creative ways.

There are most contributors who help you for a cause. Since, this gives them the feeling that they are doing something good. So it is better to discuss with your fundraiser about the ideas behind most donors. Sororities are the best place to get the ideas on sorority fundraising, as they know how to get most out from the public.

One best sorority fundraising idea is that you can use your community to exploit advertising for local business. You can print small signs up on your sorority team members wear. There are many who would like to promote their business and support your cause by allowing you to print advertises on your sorority wear for a few days. Each sorority member could find some sponsors to support them. Since there are many businesses who have special advertising logos.

Another sorority fundraising idea would be the popcorn. It sounds strange but it is a creative fund raising idea that will surely be a main hit, because popcorn is liked by all age group so you have a larger target. You can do this for the entire year. You just have to mark out places where there is more craze for popcorns. Like cinema houses or free huge space where cars are parked. Sell it in electrifying packs and request your member to roam around the entire considered areas.

Another creative idea that can help in sorority fundraising is the pancake breakfast. As many breakfast lovers like to have it as their first bite. If you’re planning to use this idea for sorority fundraising then, you can look out for the area where the people are rushing to reach their particular offices. Ask your member to roam around the busiest hubs in your residence. You can wear some funky clothes as this will attract more people towards your pancakes.

Thirdly, you can opt for another but a popular sorority fundraising idea called dollar spare. You just have to spare some penny from your daily expenditure or say from your pocket money and ask the same from your school as well as sorority members. You can even use different schools to promote this idea. Make people and students aware of your idea and cause by placing posters with detailed information on where to deposit the money.

Make sorority fundraising fun.

Types of Sorority Fundraisers

Direct Sales Fundraiser
Your Sorority orders an inventory of fundraising products to be sold by your volunteers. The product is provided to your volunteers who sell the product, deliver it, and collect payment, usually in one trip. Some fund raising companies allow time for you to sell the products before requiring payment while others, especially those providing custom products, will require payment in advance of your fund raiser.
Order Taker Fundraiser
Also called pre-sales, brochure sales or catalog sales. Your Sorority volunteers are each provided a fundraising brochure to show potential supporters and an order form. If your group is selling a single item, volunteers may also have a sample to show. Supporters select products from the brochure and records the order on the order form. Once your members are done, all order forms are tallied and sent to the fund raising company which ships the products to the contact person for your group fund raiser. Your members and volunteers then deliver the products to your supporters.  Depending on your choice, your group can collect funds from their supporters when the order is collected or upon product delivery.
On-line Fundraiser
On-line fundraising is generally handled in one of two ways. In the first, the fund raising company your Sorority is working with will create a personalized website for your group. You encourage supporters to purchase products or services from that site and you receive a percentage of sales. The second way is to have a coded link on your organizations website that will take the visitor to a personalized page on the company’s site. Again, you encourage supporters to make purchases through the coded link and your group receives a percentage of the sales. Your fund raiser could be for a specific time frame or, depending on the program, may be an ongoing throughout the year.
Special Event Fundraiser
Special event fundraising varies significantly. Your Sorority may work with a fund raising that conducts the entire event or they may sell the material, supplies and/or script for your group to produce the event yourselves. Regardless, your group will most likely at a minimum be responsible for securing the facilities, advertising, and selling tickets for the fund raiser.  Another alternative is a complete do-it-yourself fundraiser that your group comprises from scratch. You normally think of dinners, plays, car washes, raffles, and auctions in this category but there are lots more to consider.

Fun Sorority Fundraisers

For fraternities and sororities on a college campus, money is always an issue. In most organizations, there is a membership due fee which is usually a few hundred dollars. There are so many things that need to get paid for like fraternity lettered sweatshirts, paddles, group photographs, parties, events and the financial cost of the pledging process which can be expensive. Here are some of the best fraternity and sorority fund raising events put on at college campuses across the country:

1. Jello Wrestling: I have personally seen this event live on my own college campus so I can tell you how much fun and how profitable this is. You need a few fraternity guys and a few sorority girls to make this event happen. You also need a mat which you will pour more than 100 containers of jello or pudding into. Jello or pudding is very cheap and altogether the cost won’t be more than $100. This event simply involves guys and girls wrestling each other in a tub of pudding or Jell-O. It makes for great entertainment. Charge admission at the door in order to see people wrestle. If anyone in the audience wants to wrestle a guy or girl, charge them a certain price to wrestle as well. This event could easily raise more than $500 and the crown turnout should be huge if the event is promoted throughout the student body and Greek Life on your campus.

2. Fraternity Paddle supplies: This is another classic event that I have seen and read about more than a dozen times. In every fraternity and sorority, there are big brothers and big sisters and the little brother or little sister needs to make their mentor a paddle. The fraternity paddle also needs to have Greek letters on it and decorations. Fraternity paddles usually will cost people upwards of $50 and sometimes it can be difficult finding a store that sells Greek fraternity and sorority paddle supplies. In this fund raising event, have your fraternity or sorority buy fraternity paddles and paddle decorations early on the year when the supplies is on sale at any hardware or wood store. Then at the end of the semester when it comes time for people in other fraternities and sororities to buy their paddles and supplies, you can sell them the paddles you bought weeks ago for almost double the cost. It’s really using the simple principle of supply in demand. There is usually a short supply of fraternity paddles and decorations and therefore if you have extra, it will be in high demand and you can charge more for it than a normal store.

3. House party: this is the most common idea and never seems to get old. House parties require very little cost, especially if it a well known fraternity or sorority. Buy a few beer kegs and then charge admission at the door of about $5. You should easily cover the cost of buying the beer kegs and for most parties you usually make several hundred dollars.

4. Dating auction: This idea involves cooperation between a fraternity and a sorority. Advertise on campus for a date auction. During a date auction, people put in bids to get a date with a guy or girl who is up for sale. It can be as simple as dinner and a movie. Whoever in the audience puts up the highest bid gets to take that guy or girl out for dinner or on a date. College students really get into the event and it raises a lot of money. For more information on a date auction, fee free to check out my exclusive article on how to put together a date auction to maximize profits.

5. Bake sales or car washes are always popular but truthfully, they don’t make much money. In fact, they usually lose money in the end because people don’t get enough money to cover their costs.
